The E-Book Murders (Global Crime Prevention Unit #1) - edition by A.D. Vates. Literature & Fiction eBooks @ . Reviews

I enjoyed this short futuristic novel very much; but it needs editing!!!! There are so many typos [72rd St.?] and grammatically mangled sentences, that it gives the reader a feeling of reading a first draft.
War veteran Will Doyle, recently evicted from his residence, is invited to join the Global Crime Prevention Unit at the request of his sister Chloe. First he has to pass a few tests meant to gauge his mettle, his observational skills, his investigative chops, and his courage under fire. Since the GCPU is staffed and operated by a quartet of strong, beautiful women, his work is cut out for him.

Combining futuristic "I gotta get me one of these" electronic gadgets with sophisticated social media savvy, the GCPU find themselves hot on the trail of a sadistic electronic killer, one who murders people at their computers after they post one-star reviews of certain books. As an author myself, one part of me is rooting for the bad guys in this one.

Filled with exciting action in London, Ibiza and New York, we get to follow the GCPU as they look high and low for the master criminal terrorizing the internet. . . and shudder when they have to wear rubber gloves when they're at their keyboards. Fun read, recommended.
Although the storyline is ok, the misspelling of many words (not counting no z in many words) is aweful. I am not a literary genius, but I know how to use we're not where an because not cos.
All the gee whiz gadgets and beautiful women of a James Bond story, but brought up to date with the intelligent and highly competent women in charge, and Will, the newcomer, learning the ropes. The latest e-book and social media networks are at the heart of this fast-paced story that takes us all over the world. And this is just the beginning - the story is set up to continue into future books. A fun series.

-Lisa Hall Deckert
The Global Crime Prevention Unit is a fast paced, quick witted, team of brilliant, beautiful, rich, crime fighters, like James Bond for the Prada set.

This author created an entertaining, inventive crew of women who solve the crimes that otherwise go under the radar. They catch the bad guy with a combo of brains, technology, and bravado. The narrator, a young but experienced vet of Afghanistan combat (much like Dr. Watson!) finds himself way above his head when he gets selected to join their team. Will he be an asset or a drag? Have they stumbled on the organized crime that rivals their own secretive and skilled selves or are they way off base?

The book ends with one crime solved but something else hanging that makes me VERY anxious for the release of the next book!

All in all, a fun read.
The good - I enjoyed the storyline and the premise. An interesting plot that kept me engaged. I enjoyed the characters and the setting, although some of the characters, particularly the villains seemed one dimensional and cartoonish. Even so, I can overlook those problems because I expect those characters to be fleshed out in future stories.

The Bad - the book has so many editing errors and mistakes, some typographical and others just poor use of the language, that it was distracting and kept pulling me out of the story. As one reviewer put it, it felt like I was reading a first draft. There was also the clumsy use of explanations that could have been broken up and sprinkled throughout the story that would have made the flow a little more smooth.

Even so, I enjoyed reading it for the ideas and the plot. Hopefully future volumes will be better.
I don't know where to begin. This book may have had a great premise, but I'll never know. The writing was so sophomoric and grammatically challenged, that I couldn't make it past the first chapter. Too many run-on sentences, poor punctuation, and non-sequiters.

I can appreciate how hard it is to write a book - lord knows I don't have the imagination - but if you have an idea but not the grammatical skills, at least hire an editor!
First off let me say I really liked the book. The characters were well developed and fairly believable. From the sister and brother who were estranged to the cast of team members who were technically gifted the mix is great.

What I liked
A story that reveals the technological possibilities that will be available to track via Social Media. Social Media leaves footprints forever - some of the methods used in the book I am sure are here today - others should follow soon (if not already here).

Gadgets - I love gadgets and this book is full of them! From large airships to small remote control devices - these will catch your interest.

The characters - Chloe - the older sister who started the enterprise , Will the previously estranged brother with a military background and some blank spots in his memory were my favorites.

What I did not like
the constant use of 'Her' - Sentences that begin with or contain 'Her and I' - proved distracting to me, The good news in this is less of a bother in the subsequent books.

Chloe's way of talking about multiple scenarios in the same paragraph - reminds me of some Type A friends I have - can be hard to follow in a book

The 2.99 price per Novella - I have three novellas so far which brings the price to around $9, comparable to a standard size eBook from a seasoned, well edited, author.

That said, the price did not keep me from buying the next two novellas as they were available when I finished the previous books. - It may keep me from purchasing the 4th if and when it comes to market.
