Lights on the Water/Impressions in the Sand A Motorcycling Odyssey chronicles a 105-day motorcycling adventure I undertook in 2003 that covered 18,000 miles, often under difficult road situations. Weather conditions ranged from electric-vest-cold to suffocating heat.
This journey roams from Texas through the Dakotas, three Canadian Provinces, on to Alaska, then south along North America’s west coast, Death Valley, Arizona, and New Mexico, culminating in the Texas Big Bend Country.
The work is laced with significant personal events from the Vietnam War as well as consequences from a ravaging flood, all woven within the tapestry of vivid, poetic descriptions of land and seascapes, rivers carving canyons, the haunting lure of expansive deserts, and “gifts” received from encounters along the way.
You also will meet The War Horse, a BMW K1200 RS, whose personification adds levity and occasional wisdom to this lone rider’s excursion.

As a solo rider myself, I really enjoyed the author's language and descriptions, and those Motorcycling 101 lessons. His weave from early family memories to the generational relationship to Vietnam was such a natural drift in his artistic and emotional journey. Very enjoyable.Product details

Great book, great read about not just morotcycling but life in general.
Good book for the motorcycle traveler.
This was a fantastic story. As a motorcyclist, I was originally captivated by someone riding this distance on a bike -- a dream of mine. But it wasn't until I delved into a few chapters that I realized this was a deeply personally story that I began to relate to on many levels. Again, simply a fantastic story, one which I highly recommend.
Earthly view of nature's splendor through motorcycle and photography! Identifying characteristics of growing up with parents that did not express love. I could identify! Expresses each ride with a third person discussion with his iron steed, that carries him.😯

I really appreciated the Look Inside offered for this book. It gave me enough content to really get immersed in the story being told. Thus I was prompted to buy the book so that I could continue reading. It has a fantastic story-telling feel which reeled me in.
