Warrior angels, vampire hunters, and angels gone bad heat up this altogether sizzling paranormal alternate universe. This anthology of novellas features Angels' Wolf, Angels' Judgment, Angels' Pawn, and the never-before-published Angels' Dance.
In Angel's Wolf, a vampire becomes fascinated with the seductive angel who rules Louisiana. But all is not what it appears to be in her court. In Angels' Judgment, a hunter must track one of her own gone bad while surviving the deadly tests placed in her way by the archangels themselves. Unexpected backup comes from a stranger who might just be the most lethal threat of all.
In Angels' Pawn, a vampire hunter faces off against two rival factions and the angel manipulating them both, and a vampire whose help is not entirely selfless.
And in the never-before-published Angels' Dance, an angel trapped in the mountain stronghold of the Refuge finds herself under siege by a warrior angel from a martial court.

I'm a little annoyed that this only has one new short story. What is the deal with all of these publishing companies releasing already written material and re-packaging it as "new" (I'm looking at you Nora Roberts)?I'm a huge fan of the series and couldn't wait. So a few months ago I pre-ordered the book and when I saw that it had downloaded immediately went to read it.
Here's the deal - it's 3 previously published short stories (which I've already bought) with only 1 new one. When you read the book description now it clearly states that, but when I pre-ordered it the description DID NOT say 3 previously published novellas.
$7.99 for 1 novella is a bit much. Even if it had 2 new stories and 2 old ones, that might have been fine. I'd rather have bought Galen's story as a stand alone novella for $2 or $3.
That being said:
Galen and Jessamy's story was interesting to get the back story, but it didn't really pull at me like some of Singh's other stories have done. I liked Jessamy, but found her to have a bit of the "waiting lady in distress" thing which I'm not the biggest fan of. I think where Singh shines is in full length novels (I also read her Psy series) because she had a chance to fully develop her characters and story. In novellas she tries, but I can almost feel where she would have written more in but didn't do to space constraints (like when Jessamy goes back to the Refuge). Keeping all that in mind, I enjoyed Galen's story but can't wait till the next full installment of the actual series.

Angels' Flight (Audible Audio Edition) Nalini Singh Justine Eyre Tantor Audio Books Reviews
Nalini Singh is one of my favorite authors, and I am in the process of reading everything by her I can get my hands on. I had actually read two of the stories in the collection before, but I did not mind reading them again now that I am deeper into the series (the first story in the collection is the one that got me started on Nalini's work). Her books should be read in sequence since they are chronological, but I would say this anthology is a great way to begin.
About the series It is an alternate universe where Angels and Archangels have been in charge since the beginning of time, but these are not the messengers of God that we think of for angels. They are power hungry and rule the world with an iron hand. Vampires are "made" by the angels by draining off their negative energies into the candidate. That's the ground rules, now go read some.
A collection of four Guild Hunter novellas, this work highlights some of the more frequent secondary characters in the series. However, the order in which the publisher placed the novellas in the collection is not the order in which they should be read.
“Angel’s Judgment” is second in the omnibus but actually the first prequel to the series. It details Sara’s promotion to director of the Guild and her ultimate marriage to Deacon. This story precedes Raphael’s meeting Elena.
“Angels’ Pawn” is third in the omnibus but is the second prequel to the series. Here we meet Janvier, a vampire with a mischievous bent for misdemeanors, and Ashwini, one of the Guild’s top hunters, who is always being sent to retrieve Janvier after one of his sprees and Janvier seems to have a lot of these “sprees.” However, since Raphael has no real sense of humor for these things, it appears that Janvier is not who he seems nor are his escapades what they look like. Again, this story precedes Raphael’s meeting Elena.
“Angel’s Wolf” is first in the omnibus but the story actually takes place after “Archangel’s Consort,” the third book of the series. The story centers on Noel, a high-ranking vampire in Raphael’s court, and Nimra, a powerful female angel who is in charge of a sub-territory within Raphael’s domain. We first encountered Noel early in the series when he was so horribly tortured by a rival of Raphael. Several years have passed and he has finally healed physically. Now Dimitri has transferred him to the court of Nimra to help the angel solve a lethal security problem within her court.
“Angels’ Dance” is fourth in the omnibus and is best read after “Archangel’s Storm.” This novella is the story of Galen, Raphael’s weapons-master and Jessamy, the Teacher and historian based at the Refuge. The unusual thing about this novella is that it takes place a full 400 years before the series ever begins yet subtly hints at everything coming to pass that we have already witnessed in the 5 previous books.
If the new reader to this series buys this omnibus at the same time as they purchase the first book, I feel their reading enjoyment of the series will be increased exponentially. Spacing the novellas out, reading them in subject order with the main books rather than reading them one after the other, gives a much heightened understanding of the world Nalini Singh has worked so expertly to build.
